Intro to a Diabetic Diet

For a successful solution for Type 1 diabetics and Type 2 diabetics to occur, one must have an active diabetic diet and lifestyle.  Hence, the goal for me is to provide you with some easy and simple diabetic recipes to conquer one and for all.

Eating foods with a low glycemic rating is especially important for all diabetics, as they do not cause such spikes in the insulin levels as foods with a high glycemic rating will.  Just by eating a diet rich in these low glycemic indexes, a diabetic can and will significantly improve their body's ability to maintain a low insulin level and a normal blood sugar level.  For a quick and easy diabetic diet, try these diabetic recipes, Here! Some low-glycemic foods are:

1) Sweet Potatoes
2) Yams
3) Yogurt
4) Poultry
5) Fish (you can eat any kind you like, but please make sure that it is wild-caught and not farm-raised)
6) Lean cuts of beef, bison, lamb (please make sure that it is organic and grass-fed)
7) Legumes and Nuts
8) Whole-grains and Whole-grain bread (Organic is always the best option)
9) Fruits (Most notably fruits that contain the pits/seeds, such as peaches, pomegranate, etc.)
10 Leafy green vegetables (Organic is always the best option)

The rule of thumb, is any foods that are not cooked but RAW, most likely has a lower glycemic rating than that of cooked food.  Obviously, it may be difficult to completely change your diet to only eating raw foods, so you can incorporate some of these raw foods into your regular diet for now.

Foods that should be avoided at all costs and are considered highly glycemic are as follows:

1) White potatoes
2) Peanuts and Peanut butter
3) Commercially packaged cereals (Oatmeal is always a good substitute)
4) White breads
5) Bagels
6) English Muffins
7) Raisins and dried fruits
8) Whole Milk and Cheeses (the reason being they are both very high in lactose - a form of sugar)
9) Cookies/Pastries and the like
10) Hot dogs/Luncheon Meats (all the processed fleshy foods)

I know it may be difficult for most people to cut out foods from the high-glycemic list, but in later posts, I will provide you with dessert recipes and other yummy foods that you will not miss eating the way you used to.  I have recently come across a significant breakthrough in reversing Diabetes once and for all - if you want to do more than just maintain your disease, you have got to Check This Out Now!

For now, check out the recipe below that I dug up.

Tropical Nut Cookies

Ingredients:
                 1 Large Egg (Organic, Cage-Free)
2 medium ripe bananas (peeled and mashed)
1/4 cup drained, crushed pineapple (in its own juices, of course the unsweetened one)
                 1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 1/4 cup of whole grain flour (wheat flour or oat flour works great)
1/3 cup of unsweetened flaked coconut
1/2 teaspoon of baking powder (please make sure your baking powder is aluminum-free)
                 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt
1/2 cup of chopped macadamia nuts

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Line a large baking sheet(s) with parchment paper. In a medium bowl combine the egg, the bananas, the pineapple and the vanilla. Whisk to blend. Add the flour, the coconut, the baking powder and the salt. Mix to blend. Stir in the nuts. Drop tablespoonfuls of dough, 2-inches apart, on the prepared baking sheet(s). Bake until lightly browned, about 10 - 12 minutes. Remove from rack and cool on pan(s) for 10 minutes. Transfer cookies to a rack and cool completely. Store in a tightly covered container.

Note: These cookies get their sweetness from the crushed pineapple and banana. There is NO added sugar.

Number of Servings: about 24 cookies

As for now, I leave you with this - "The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will involve the patient in the proper use of food, fresh air, and exercise."-Thomas Edison
